Suffering For My Art

This photo was taken in a sudden hailstorm, on foot, and not from inside a vehicle.

Just like the Postal Service, a dedicated train nut will brave the worst to get the shots he wants. A far cry from those armchair modelers who simply rely on others, and the internet to find train photos. I understand that not everyone has a railroad line in their hometown - but there are those who claim to have one over the back fence - and yet they don't go out photographing trains themselves. If you have a camera, you can take railfanning trips now and then. Get off of your computer and find some trains. It's no surprise that the best model train weatherers are the same ones who get their own closeup shots of rust, loads, and other details. Like I need to be the one telling you that. Find an overpass, walk up it, and shoot train roofs.
